Events & Activity
Networking events and giving back to the community are two of my top favorite things to do in life...
Career Guidance and Resume Roast Event
@ Deakin Burwood Campus
It was great to share my experience as an international student and share a few tips and tricks I leveraged during my journey. The energy of the audience was spectacular!
My key takeaways were as follows,
🏅 Attend as much as networking events/meetups as early as you can (specially if you're still an undergrad)
🏅 Personal branding is the key, Work on your branding from day one. Don't let society pick your brand, Re-create yourself by forging a new identity and wear it proudly.
🏅 You have to push yourself out of your comfort zone and find yourself in states of discomfort so you can expose the boundary conditions. That's how you reach your true potential. Otherwise, you are just emotionally and intellectually stunted.

Leading your life Towards Success - Dilan Jayasekara
Youtube Interview
I was invited by #CinnamonChatWithNethila to speak on the topic "Lead Your Life to Success"
Having come to Australia 5 years ago, a strong mindset and a blend of both soft and technical skills assisted me with accomplishing everything I could ever hope for. Also, both #Networking and #PersonalBranding became fundamental skills and played a critical role in my journey.
With the ongoing circumstance in Sri Lanka, it is my personal opinion that it is necessary for any young professional to have such a strong mental level and the numerous abilities I have referenced here. All of that was discussed in this program and how to survive in a foreign country as an international student was also covered (There are a couple of secret tips too!)
I believe this program will provide value to those who wish to become international students, those who are newly joining the workforce, those who plan to enter the workforce in the next few years, and young IT professionals in both Sri Lanka and abroad.
Japan AWS User Group - Conference 2021
Virtual Keynote Speech (Dilan Jayasekara on Music Analytics)
Virtual Keynote Speech (Dilan Jayasekara on Music Analytics)
JAWS-UG is a group (community) of people who use cloud computing provided by AWS (Amazon Web Services). JAWS-UG is a community of people who use cloud computing provided by AWS (Amazon Web Services). We hold study sessions and exchange events by volunteers for the purpose of learning and exchange that cannot be done alone. We have groups in the form of chapters all over Japan, and each group conducts activities based on its own theme. This community is a non-profit organization.
About the session
Music is something we all enjoy. The VHS, DVD and CD era has gone to dust and it's all streaming platforms are the giants in the music industry. For example, Spotify will suggest you a few playlists based on your listening history/activity/behavior, But sometimes I wanted to create my own music. The best example I can give you is; I'm really into 1980's music. So I wanted to extract the data tagged as 80's and sort everything by popularity and slice the dataset to X amount of rows (ie.100) and create my own playlist.
I was able to automate this to run on every weekend at 4am so my playlist is updated every week. I used Lambda/AWS Event Bridge/ S3 and Redshift to house all the data as a datawarehouse

Melbourne Python Users Group - Speech
At Study Melbourne Hub (2019)
This group is a monthly gathering of Python users and developers in the Melbourne area. We discuss Python and related open source technologies. It is a networking forum for meeting other locals interested in Python and exchanging news and ideas.
I've been a member of the "Python User Group" for almost a year and had a chance to speak about the topic "How to access Google Spreadsheet data using Python" on June Meetup, 2019 as my first speech there.
In this presentation, I've explained how to use the Gspresd Python package to read, write, and delete data from a Google Spreadsheet with just a few lines of code. The speech went around 30mins with a live demo and luckily nothing went wrong.
